6c: Concepts for Diagnosis - 3D
3-D Thinking
Perhaps the most difficult concept to master is 3-D Thinking, the ability to create a mental 3-D image from multiple 2-D B-scans. The goal of this concept is the creation of a global or orbital mental image of ocular or orbital topography.
Initial experience can be frustrating, but by concentrating on simple, symmetrical intraocular abnormalities that can be visualized with light, the beginner learns with practice to interpret and cross reference multiple ultrasonic cross sections into a total mental 3-D image.
